This slide deck accompanies my “An Elementary Shakesperience” unit plan. Fifth grade students are guided through the this introduction to Shakespearean text by following along with the slide deck in presentation. It covers the whole unit, starting with the introduction of Shakespearean text through “The play’s the thing wherein I’ll catch the conscience of the king” from Hamlet, all the way to the end of the unit where students present their own gesture based performances of famous lines of Shakespeare from other plays including Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Richard III, and Othello.

Much of my “An Elementary Shakesperience” unit included students performing Shakespeare, using gestures to help with understanding the poetic text. Linked below are multiple student performances of various pieces of text. Most of the included gestures were devised by the students.

One of my most prized teaching artifacts, I received this after teaching my first unit for the first time. One of my students came up to me at the end of class. He handed me this piece of paper with five stars drawn on it and informed me that this was my review from him. Incredibly proud to have gotten 5/5 possible stars from him.
